deliberately uses an algorithm called that works by writing small programs at random and running them as real machine code. A normal app can do that. A web page cannot — browsers do not allow code to generate and execute machine code that way, so a browser has to imitate it, instruction by instruction.
The result is roughly 1–5% of the speed the same computer reaches with the app installed. It also cannot use the large memory pages the algorithm depends on. Monero made this choice on purpose in 2019, specifically to stop websites mining on visitors.
So a browser tab would earn you a fraction of a cent a month while draining your battery. We are not going to do that to you. Install the app and the same machine earns its real rate.
